Another new job and some new musical endeavors.
My season with the Deep Cove Rowing Club is drawing to an end and I look back on the past year with a strange sense of accomplishment. The club did very well with athletes whom I coached winning at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta and at the U.S. Masters Championships. I think that there is so much more that I could have done this year at the club given the resources, however, being a new club we just couldn't afford some of the things that could have made the club even more successful. I'm going to stay involved with the club at some level...probably not to coach...more at an advisory level.
I also have been making some interesting musical discoveries in my workings with Bob Murphy. www.roadhouserecords.ca/albums/WallStreet
Bob is helping make me be consciously aware of some of the things that I had been doing intuitively but inconsistantly. Teaching me to think about the right things..the meaning and feel of the song...not the mechanics of producing the noise. (You don't think about turning the handlebars left or right to balance a bike.) I've also been listening to a lot more Thelonius Monk. I seem to have a real conection with his style. I haven't figured out how it can work vocally though.
That's all for now. I'll try to post more regularly.
